Death Penalty Cases
We defend children facing the most severe and unlawful sentences.
The Problem
In Somaliland, the law clearly prohibits the use of the death penalty for children.
However, in practice, children have at times faced death sentences despite these legal protections. These cases often involve serious charges and complex proceedings, where age may not be properly assessed or applied.
Without strong legal defense, children are at risk of being sentenced in ways that are inconsistent with the law.
Our Approach
CLDC provides direct legal defense to children facing the most serious charges, including cases where the death penalty has been imposed or threatened.
Our work focuses on ensuring that Somaliland’s legal protections are upheld in practice. This includes verifying age, challenging unlawful sentences, and representing clients at trial and on appeal.
We work with the courts to ensure that no child is subjected to a punishment that is explicitly prohibited under the law.
Why It Matters
Ensuring that children are not subjected to the death penalty is a fundamental legal obligation.
When the law is not applied correctly in these cases, the consequences are severe. Strong legal defense is essential to ensuring that protections for children are not only recognized but also enforced.
Each case helps strengthen how the justice system applies the law in practice.
