Gender Justice
Defending girls and young women to ensure they receive equal treatment and strong legal representation.
The Problem
In Somaliland, girls who come into contact with the justice system often face additional barriers.
They may lack access to legal representation, be misunderstood within the system, or face charges that do not fully reflect their circumstances. In some cases, girls who experience sexual violence are treated as suspects rather than protected as victims.
Without proper legal defense, these risks are compounded.
Our Approach
CLDC provides direct legal defense to girls and young women across a wide range of cases.
We work to ensure that each client is treated fairly, that their rights are upheld, and that the law is applied appropriately to their situation. This includes advocating for release where detention is unlawful, ensuring access to due process, and supporting girls throughout their cases.
Why It Matters
Girls often face unique challenges within the justice system. Ensuring they receive strong legal defense is essential not only for individual outcomes but for strengthening how the system responds to girls more broadly.
Each case contributes to a more consistent and equal application of the law.
Help ensure girls receive fair defense
Your support helps provide legal representation to girls who might otherwise face the justice system alone.
