Migration & Trafficking Cases

Defending children who are criminalized in the context of migration and trafficking.

The Problem

Children on the move—whether migrating or caught in trafficking-related situations—are often treated as offenders within the justice system.

In some cases, children attempting to migrate are charged with offenses such as smuggling or related crimes. Others may be caught up in trafficking situations but treated as suspects rather than recognized as victims.

Without legal representation, their circumstances are not always fully considered, and the law may not be applied appropriately.

Our Approach

CLDC provides direct legal defense to children involved in cases related to migration and trafficking.

Our work focuses on ensuring that each child’s situation is properly understood and that the law is applied accordingly. This includes challenging charges where children have been mischaracterized, advocating for their release from detention, and ensuring that they are treated in line with applicable legal protections.

Through representation in court, we work to ensure that children are not criminalized for circumstances in which they are vulnerable.

Why It Matters

Cases involving migration and trafficking raise complex legal and factual issues.

Ensuring that children are treated appropriately within the justice system is essential not only for individual outcomes but for strengthening how the system responds to vulnerable children more broadly.

Each case contributes to building a more consistent and fair application of the law.
